WASHINGTON, DC – US Travel Association Executive Vice President for Public Affairs Jonathan Grella issued the following statement on imminent introduction of the Senate FAA reauthorization measure that will reportedly not include an adjustment to the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) cap:

“The Senate was intent on advancing a balanced, bipartisan bill. As is the case in Washington, however, it’s harder to do something good than to keep something good from happening.

“There exists a bipartisan recognition that adjusting the PFC cap is long overdue. After all, addressing the issue of airport infrastructure and airline competition are about as meaningful measures as lawmakers could hope to address in FAA renewal.

“Travelers will now have to wait until at least the 20th anniversary of the last PFC adjustment in order to reap the benefits of updated airports and restored airline competition.

“The travel industry continues to be grateful to the responsible travel advocates on the panel, who remain committed to improving the flying experience. Here’s to hoping that common sense ultimately prevails.”
