700 volunteers soughts for Shanghai International Tourism Zone opening

SHANGHAI, China – The Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, which encompasses the Shanghai Disney resort as its centerpiece, will be looking for 700 volunteers this month.

SHANGHAI, China – The Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, which encompasses the Shanghai Disney resort as its centerpiece, will be looking for 700 volunteers this month.

The volunteers are expected to help maintain order, give directions, assist physically-challenged tourists and serve as interpreters to foreigners when the zone is scheduled to open to the public at the end of April, city government announced on Saturday.

Tourists will be able to find the volunteers at the bus terminals, shuttle bus stops, Metro station, parking lots as well as entries and exits of the Shanghai Disneyland within the central area of the zone, which covers seven square kilometers, at weekends, national holidays and summer holidays when the largest numbers of tourists are predicted.

โ€œWe estimate that we will need 100 to 120 volunteers at the same time during peak time and 130 to 150 of them during super peak time,โ€ said Qiu Yichuan, an official with the Shanghai Shendi Group, which invests, builds and operates the Shanghai Disney Resort in cooperation with the Walt Disney Company.

Qiu said the recruited volunteers will be given a systematic training for general knowledge and specific jobs in April before they go on duty.

The first batch of volunteers, who will serve through this year, will be mainly recruited from 10 universities in Shanghai, most of which have campuses in Pudong, where the zone is located, as well as from local communities and companies. But all citizens can apply for it.

The Shanghai Youth League Committee said the recruitment notice will soon be published at its WeChat accounts โ€œqingchunshanghaiโ€ and โ€œshvolunteerโ€.

โ€œWe welcome foreigners who study, work and live in Shanghai to apply,โ€ said Zhou Liuyun, an official with the committee.

Qiu added that they will also invite volunteers who specialize in certain fields such as medicine to join the force.
