Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority (BECA) will stage the first Food & Hospitality Expo 2009 (The Gulf’s International Food and Hospitality Exhibition) from January 13-15, 2009 at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre (BIEC). It will be held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, The Prime Minister of Kingdom of Bahrain.

Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority (BECA) functions under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Hassan Abdulla Fakhro, the Minister of Industry & Commerce.

Strong matchmaking component
Dedicated to the food, beverage, and packing technology industries, Food & Hospitality Expo 2009 will bring together an international audience of buyers, retailers, distributors, food and beverage (F&B) professionals, and the media. Its strength lies in the strong matchmaking component structured by BECA with the goal of facilitating deals between buyers and sellers, importers, and exporters worldwide.

In addition, this premier event addresses the GCC region’s strong demand for new products and F&B trends of the future while offering the most rewarding business and networking opportunities. Some of the most reputed names in the industry will also be represented at Food & Hospitality Expo 2009.

Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority (BECA) will offer free admission during the three-day show.

Bahrain was selected as the setting for Food & Hospitality Expo 2009 due to its proximity to the Northern Gulf states of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, said Ms. Debbie Stanford-Kristiansen, acting chief executive of Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority (BECA). “In addition, many of the top international players such as Coca-Cola, Del Monte, Kraft, and Nestle have set up licensing agreements with local manufacturers to produce their brand.”

Studies confirm that from US$1 billion in 1995, the market for the food processing sector in the GCC states has grown to nearly US$7 billion with annual investment per factory rising from US$5 million to over US$9 million.

Food & Hospitality Expo 2009 will have exhibitors from India, Saudi Arabia, Croatia, UK, Lebanon, UAE, and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

According to Ms. Stanford-Kristiansen, “This is a very important step forward for Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority (BECA) in realizing its objectives of increasing its portfolio of international events that would enhance Bahrain’s reputation as the gateway to the lucrative markets of the Northern Gulf region.”

During the three, action-packed days, staff from 10 hotels and restaurants in Bahrain will share their passion and knowledge about cooking in a demonstration kitchen that will be set up for the show and will feature amazing fruit carving, magical ice sculptures, and glass juggling.

Food & Hospitality Expo 2009 has drawn the participation of three major supermarket chains in Bahrain such as Lulu Hypermarket, Al Jazirah Supermarket, and Alosra Supermarket, as well as five-star hotels such as The Gulf Hotel Bahrain and The Regency Inter.Continental.

It is being sponsored by Coca-Cola while supporters include the Ministry of Industry & Commerce and Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Gulf Air is the official carrier.
