Tourists stranded on Ghaleila mountain rescued by RAK Police Air Wing

RAS AL KHAIMAH, United Arab Emirates – Four tourists who got lost on a mountain were rescued by the RAK Police Air Wing on Sunday.

RAS AL KHAIMAH, United Arab Emirates – Four tourists who got lost on a mountain were rescued by the RAK Police Air Wing on Sunday.

Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Rashid Al Yamahi, who heads the Air Wing at RAK Police, said that his section received a report on Sunday morning from the operations room informing them about a group of tourists stranded on top of Ghaleila mountain.

The tourists said they could not find the way back to their car.

He said once the Air Wing received the report, a fully equipped helicopter with a number of rescuers were on their way to the tourists.

The climbers were located and were taken to safety.

The tourists were brought back to Ras Al Khaimah where they were given medical check-ups and mineral water, and taken to hospital for treatment. They were found to be in poor health, said police.

Al Yamahi said those who wish to climb mountains must exercise caution.

He said mountainous areas are very rugged and special coordination must be carried out with the authorities to ensure safety.
