CANCUN, Mexico – The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is pleased to announce that UK visitor numbers to Cancun increased by 8% for the period January to October 2015 compared to the same the period in 2014. There were a total of 94,097 UK tourist arrivals at Cancun International Airport, up from 87,203.

In total, Cancun welcomed 3,892,214 international and domestic holidaymakers from January to October 2015, up 6% on the same period in 2014. The UK was the third largest source market after the United States and Canada and accounted for more than half of all European arrivals.

In 2015 UK visitors took advantage of the excellent air links to Cancun with Virgin Atlantic and British Airways operating direct flights from London Gatwick. Holidaymakers were also able to fly with Thomson and Thomas Cook on direct services on selected dates from East Midlands, Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Stansted, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports. This year there will be even more flight choice with the introduction of a Dublin flight and a special one of service from Cardiff.

The CVB attributes the growth in tourism numbers to a plethora of new hotel and attraction openings, the increased flight connectivity and to Cancunโ€™s growing reputation as a first class holiday destination for service and quality. With the Pound at near record highs against the Mexican Peso and falling global oil prices resulting in cheaper long haul flights, the CVB expects another strong year from the UK market in 2016.

Last year the CVB worked closely with its partners in the UK to highlight Cancunโ€™s family product, vibrant nightlife and fascinating cultural sites. It will continue to promote these key messages in 2016 and will also strive to highlight Cancunโ€™s burgeoning events calendar, enviable gastronomy scene and world class shopping and spa facilities.
