Terror attack on Splendid hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Three or four masked gunmen have stormed the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso in west Africa, which is used by UN staff and westerners.

Three or four masked gunmen have stormed the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso in west Africa, which is used by UN staff and westerners. This four-star hotel is located near the international airport.

Witnesses that were at the scene said two car bombs went off outside the hotel at approximately 1930 local time; one of the cars is on fire.

Gunfire was exchanged between the gunmen and security forces, and shots could be heard coming from inside the hotel.

Reports indicate that the situation is ongoing and hostages are involved.

According to a statement on facebook, the US Embassy in Burkina Faso capital is “aware and closely following the situation in downtown Ouagadougou.”

There have not been any reports yet of casualties.
