LOS ANGELES, California – Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf, Jumeirah Al Qasr and Jumeirah Mina A’Salam, the three boutique hotels in the Madinat Jumeirah resort in Dubai, received scores of 90%, 89%, and 89% respectively. Madinat Jumeirah’s overall score increased by 4% in 2015 compared to 2014. The Madinat Jumeirah Conference Center is the first standalone GGC convention center and Souk Madinat Jumeirah is the first retail center in Middle East to secure Green Globe certification.

Because of this, Madinat Jumeirah has been re-awarded Green Globe Certification (GGC) showing major improvements in energy and waste-saving measures. Madinat Jumeirah is the highest scoring GGC multi-site property in the world for the second consecutive year.

Margaret Paul, Resort General Manager at Madinat Jumeirah, said: “Since embracing the Green Globe program in 2014, we have made tremendous progress and seen year-on-year improvements. We witnessed savings in our electricity and water consumption and this has only been possible thanks to the dedication, efforts and teamwork of all Madinat Jumeirah colleagues who are wholly committed to the environmental, social and commercial benefits of the initiative.”

The resort’s green policies have been developed in line with its corporate social responsibility programs which include participation in local cultural events, supporting local businesses and working closely with a center for children with special needs. In addition, over 3,000 colleagues at Madinat Jumeirah have been trained on Green Globe initiatives.

“Energy-saving measures include switching to LED lighting, investing in smart room management systems and using eco-friendly products in the resort’s newly refurbished rooms and suites. Madinat Jumeirah has re-engineered its waste management program through an increase in composting, segregation and food waste reduction activity. As a result, electricity consumption has reduced by 6.5% compared with 2014, and waste has reduced by 9.3% in the same period,” said Sandrine Le Biavant, Director Consultancy FARNEK, Green Globe’s auditing preferred partner.

Madinat Jumeirah’s performance is the highest within the Jumeirah portfolio globally and the certification reinforces the property’s ongoing commitment to a more sustainable future. The team at Madinat Jumeirah has set ambitious goals for 2016 to continue to focus on environmental sustainability across all departments.
