Reunion Island kicks off Indian Ocean Swimming Festival

Each year on the occasion of the International Meeting of the Indian Ocean Swimming, the Reunion Island league swimming receives the biggest names competing in the 25-meter short pool of Plateau Caillou, along with many other aquatic sports athletes.

The 27th Indian Ocean Swimming Festival kicked off yesterday on Reunion Island and runs until the end of the year, with the last competitions taking place on December 31.

The first day ended with the French Olympic duet synchronized swimming – eighth in the world championship in 2015 โ€“ at the synchronized swimming gala. In preparation for the Olympic Games, Margaux Christian Auge and Laura were accompanied in the pool by various clubs from the island, namely the Aquanautes, Western Sirens, West Swimming Meeting, and the Sainte-Marie Aquatic Club.

The 2015 edition will shine with the arrival of Olympic champions and vice champions of the world, Europe or even France, not to mention local swimmers who have distinguished themselves in the last games of the Indian Ocean islands in August 2015. Spectators have a chance to admire the performance of the world champion of the 10 kilometer in Kazan Aurรฉlie Muller (France); the relay world champion 4×100 meters freestyle, Lorys Borelly (Martinique); and double bronze medalist in the 400 meters and 800-meter freestyle in the Championship of France and 8 times gold medalist Games of the Indian Ocean islands, Alizee Morel (Rรฉunion Island).

Other renowned guests are also present in the vicinity of pools, such as Philippe Lucas, Manaudou’s coach, as well as coach of the France team of open water swimmers and the President of the French Swimming Federation, Francis Luyce. New this year is the freestyle event which will take place on Thursday, December 31. For its 27th edition, the event hosts the open water Coupe de France which will be contested in a 5-kilometer race across in the lagoon of the Hermitage.
