LOS ANGELES, CA – Year-end revelers and Rose Bowl attendees who are looking for a hotel room in Los Angeles or Pasadena for New Year’s Eve will find themselves facing an expensive situation. According to a new survey from LosAngelesHotels.org, hotel rates are skyrocketing in and around LA on December 31.
In Downtown Los Angeles, less than 15% of hotels are still offering available rooms for New Year’s Eve. On average, those limited establishments that do have vacancies are charging over 147% more compared to their regular rates. But some are hiking their rates by a lot more.
One such accommodation is the Hotel Solaire. This three-star hotel located next to the McArthur Park metro station is charging $532 for a double room on December 31. That figure is more than 350% above its regular rate. To stay in the most affordable double room (rated at least 3 stars) in downtown LA on the last night of the year, an overnight guest will have to spend around $400.
Even more expensive is neighboring Pasadena, where hotels are virtually sold out on both December 31 and January 1. To stay in the home of the Rose Bowl, a visitor will have to spend at least $500 for a decent hotel room. However, a few low-budget motels are still offering rooms for $200 to $300 nightly.
A few more rooms are still available in Hollywood, where hotels have increased their rates by a more moderate 83%, on average. For the least expensive Hollywood room, a guest will have to spend around $300.
For even cheaper accommodations, a year-end traveler will have to look around the LAX airport. In this vicinity, rooms can still be found for less than $200 on New Year’s Eve.
