ANCHORAGE, Alaska โ€“ Visitors and tourists are being asked to stay out of the Hatcher Pass area in the Talkeetna Mountains in Alaska as authorities search for a skier that has been missing since Sunday. Hatcher Pass is located between the towns of Willow and Palmer, and is a favorite destination for recreation and scenic drives.

A visitor from Wasilla, Washington, 33-year-old Liam Walsh informed friends and family that he was heading to the Hatcher Pass area to ski and would be back that same evening. When he did not return, his vehicle was found close to mile 13.5 on Hatcher Pass Road.

On top of searching for Walsh, an avalanche occurred this morning, Tuesday, November 24, 2015, near Archangel Road Trailhead, which has also blocked Hatcher Pass Road beyond the Gold Mint parking lot.

Alaska State Troopers announced that they are requesting everyone stay away from the area until damage and risks from the avalanche can be fully assessed and as the search for the missing skier continues.

Several avalanches have happened in the Hatcher Pass area recently.
