In an attempt to cushion the fallout from the Russian jet tragedy, Egyptian authorities have encouraged Egyptians to visit Sharm Al Shaikh and unveiled cuts in airfares to the resort. The government has said it will hold its meeting next week in Sharm Al Shaikh.
Sharm Al Shaikh, Egypt: Everything around him is perfect: the sunny weather, the azure-blue sea and the scenic view. One thing is lacking: customers.
For two weeks now, Hamada Saeed, who runs a souvenir shop in this Red Sea resort has got a trickle of customers. โIf you came here few weeks ago, you could not believe this was the same place,โ Saeed, 32, says. โWe had to work for long hours to serve the customers eager to buy Christmas for their families and friends,โ adds Saeed. โBut since the accident of the Russian plane, the day could pass without having a handful of customers. This is a disaster that has fallen on our heads.โ
