Apart from the variety of cultural activities organized as part of the third Seychelles-India Day celebrations, the committee responsible for this event has once again made a contribution towards a community in the country.
The Anse Boileau health center which provides health care to the western part of the main island of Mahé has been adopted by the Seychelles Indian Association.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Health Care Agency of the country and the Seychelles Indian Association.
From this agreement, the health center will benefit from two medical specialists who will be based there as well as medical equipment.
The signing ceremony took place at the health center on Saturday morning, in the presence of Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, who also heads the Ministry for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports; Minister for Health Mitcy Larue; and Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange.
Others present included the Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Panda, members of the National Assembly for the Anse Boileau district Bernard Arnephy and of Port Glaud Sultane Jacqueline, as well as representatives of the Indian Association and health officials.
The association has adopted the Anse Boileau health center for a period of two years. From this accord signed, the association will also be responsible for maintaining the building.
Chairperson of the Seychelles-India Day organizing committee, Ramu Pillay, said the signing was the biggest activity of this year’s Seychelles-India Day celebrations.
Mr. Pillay added that with this adoption, Anse Boileau will become a modern clinic, and services being offered will keep improving.
Minister Larue said this newly-signed agreement is yet another milestone.
“The signing of this memorandum of understanding between the Health Care Agency and the Seychelles Indian Association is a shining example of community involvement in action,” said Minister Larue.
She added that the spirit of togetherness should be kept as this will help Seychelles to attain a lot more.
Guests present then toured the clinic to see the renovation works that have been done.
