Egypt’s ex-tourism minister passes away at the age of 76

CAIRO, Egypt – Mamdouh El-Beltagy, Egypt’s former tourism minister, died on Saturday at the age of 76, the state owned MENA news agency reported.

CAIRO, Egypt – Mamdouh El-Beltagy, Egypt’s former tourism minister, died on Saturday at the age of 76, the state owned MENA news agency reported.

El-Beltagy was a Mubarak-era official who held several posts, including tourism minister from 1993 till 2004, information minister from 2004 till 2005 and youth minister from 2005 until the 25 January revolution in 2011, when former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was ousted along with many other establishment figures.

El-Beltagy started his career as an assistant for Egypt’s prosecutor-general in 1958 until 1974, after which he was appointed media attachรฉ for Egypt’s embassy at France, and in 1982 he headed the State Information Service.
