During the 11th edition of the Hospitality India and Explore the World travel award ceremony held at the Ashok Hotel and Conference Centre in Delhi, Reunion Island, for the second time this year, claimed a major Indian travel trophy. Back in April, Reunion Island was voted as best emerging destination, and this time, it was the top prize for best emerging destination for travelers from India.

Aided by a broad visa waiver specifically designed to allow certain nationalities into Reunion Island, a French region and as such part of the European Union, the marketing drive in India has paid off very well with visitor numbers rising in leaps and bounds.

Nearly 700 invited guests from a broad cross-section of hotels, travel agents, tour operators, trade associations, and airlines witnessed Reunion Island being called up to receive the award which was claimed by Reunion Island Tourismโ€™s (IRTโ€™s) representative in India, Mr. Vinet Gopal, handed over by the Indian Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, Dr. Mahesh Sharma.

Every guest received an event magazine with a major insert from the IRT, the islandโ€™s tourism marketing organization, highlighting the many attractions visitors can expect when traveling to this Indian Ocean island.
