Notting Hill Carnival: Plan ahead on how to get there and back

LONDON, England – Europe’s biggest street carnival is this weekend, as thousands of revellers descend on the streets of Notting Hill for a party.

There will be a number of road closures in the area and some tube stations will be either closed or exit only across the weekend. Make sure you plan your travel below.

How To Get To The Notting Hill Carnival

Make sure you plan ahead on how you will get to and from the Notting Hill Carnival as several Tube Stations are closed.

Tube Station Closures

IMPORTANT: Ladbroke Grove is closed on both Sunday and Monday, while Notting Hill Gate, Westbourne Park and Royal Oak are exit-only, so you will not be able to leave the area from these stations.

Ladbroke Grove: Station closed on both Sunday and Monday.

Latimer Road: Station will close at 22.30 on Sunday and Monday.

Notting Hill Gate: Exit only between 11.00 to 19.00 on Sunday and Monday. There will be no interchange between Central and Circle/District lines between 11.00 and 19.00 on Sunday and all day Bank Holiday Monday.

Royal Oak: Exit only between 11:00 and 18:00 on Sunday and Monday, closed at 23.30 on both days.

Westbourne Park: Exit only between 11.00 and 18.00. The station will close at 23.30 on both days.

Bayswater, Queensway, Paddington, High Street Kensington, Holland Park and Queen’s Park are all open as usual.

Road Closures

There will be extensive road closures in the Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park running from the early hours of Sunday to allow for preparation of the route.

Roads on or near the carnival route will close on Sunday 30th August 7.00 to 23.59 and on Monday 31st August from 7.00 to Tuesday 1st September at approximately 5am.

The road closures will cover: Harrow Road in the north, Notting Hill Gate in the south, Clarendon Road in the west and Queensway in the east.

Traffic is likely to be slow moving at: Edgware Road (A5), Harrow Road, Holland Park Avenue, Notting Hill Gate and Bayswater Road.

London buses will operate additional buses to serve the carnival. Due to the road closures a total of 25 bus routes will either be diverted or part suspended.

Buses

There are additional buses serving the area, but they are not allowed into the carnival area.

From around 05.00 on Sunday to 05.00 on Tuesday, buses around the event area will be on diversion or will terminate earlier than usual to avoid the road closures.

During these times, buses will start from the Prince of Wales on Harrow Road to the north of the carnival area. To the south of the carnival area, buses will start from Notting Hill Gate.

Affected bus routes include: 6, 7, 16, 18, 23, 27, 28, 31, 36, 46, 52, 70, 94, 98, 148,187, 220, 228, 274, 295, 316, 328, 332, 390, 414, 452, N7, N16, N18, N28, N31 N98 and N207.

Extra buses will run on routes 2, 205, 436 which can be found on journey planner as 2X, 205X and 436X.

Bikes

Docking stations for Boris bikes will be closed for the duration of the carnival at Turquoise Island, Pembridge Villas, Chepstow Villas, Notting Hill Gate Station, Hereford Road, Ladbroke Grove Central and Lansdowne Walk.
