HONOLULU, Hawaii – A tropical storm watch has been issued for Hawaii Island as Hilda is forecast to pass near or over Hawaii Island as early as Wednesday night.

HONOLULU, Hawaii – A tropical storm watch has been issued for Hawaii Island as Hilda is forecast to pass near or over Hawaii Island as early as Wednesday night.

While Hilda is still a category 1 hurricane, it is expected to weaken to a tropical storm or depression as it approaches the Hawaiian Islands with the potential for heavy rain, high surf and high winds.

Visitors should familiarize themselves with this information, listen to ocean safety officials and exercise caution when entering the water as high surf messages are issued.
