Former President of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres, yesterday, July 27, welcomed Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, at the Tel-Aviv Centre for the Peres & Associates and The Peres Centre for Peace.

Seychelles Minister St.Ange, who is leading a public/private sector tourism promotional delegation in Israel was invited to visit The Peres Center for Peace and for a one-to-one meeting with President Shimon Peres, the former leader who continuously draws upon his unwavering optimism, innovation, and creativity in order to pursue and promote prosperity, progress, and peace in Israel and the region.

With his known statement, President Peres said to Minister St.Ange, “We need peace between people, not just between governments,” as the former President, Prime Minister, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate explained the raison d’être of his Centre for Peace. “Seychelles is today the new holiday destination for Israel. We are an eco-tourism destination that today leads the world with this long-term vision even though we are but a small mid-ocean island state,” Minister Alain St.Ange said as he qualified the Seychelles friendly ties to the State of Israel saying that much can be done between the two countries as they work for peace in greater Africa and in the Middle East.

“Seychelles sits as the gateway into Africa, and as our islands are today pushing for a ‘Brand Africa’ to help this great continent receive its fair visitor arrival numbers, the peace drive by The Peres Centre for Peace can help us further because the consolidation of tourism goes hand in hand with peace and stability on the continent,” said the Seychelles Minister.

In their long private meeting, President Shimon Peres and Minister Alain St.Ange explored avenues for closer cooperation and agreed to continue discussions between the Minister and his office to come up with an action plan as the Minister was in Israel.

“I was honored to have met President Shimon Peres and was marked by his statesmanship,” Minister St.Ange said as he left The Peres Centre for Peace after his long tete-a-tete with the Israeli for leader.
