BOSTON, MA – Provincetown, located at the extreme tip of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, is New England’s most expensive summer destination. That’s according to a recent survey that compared hotel rates for 30 popular destinations in New England for the main summer travel period of July 1 to August 31, 2015.

The rankings were determined based on the average cost of each location’s cheapest available double room. As such, the prices mentioned reflect the minimum amount travelers will have to spend to stay at a certain destination this summer. Only centrally located hotels rated at least 2 stars were considered by the survey.

Visitors to Provincetown will have to spend, on average, $247 per night for a double room. Coming in as the second and third most expensive New England destinations are Kennebunkport, Maine and Newport, Rhode Island, with average overnight rates of $234 and $226 respectively.

Another five destinations in Massachusetts made it into the Top 10. They include Chatham and Falmouth, both of which, like Provincetown, are located in Barnstable County. The island of Martha’s Vineyard, as well as Cambridge and the state capital, Boston, also made the cut.
