SUVA, Fiji – Farmers, chefs and hoteliers will be part of a week-long agri-tourism workshop organized by the European Union and Secretariat of the Pacific Community this week.

A statement by EU said the Pacific Community Agritourism Week would explore an innovative way to reduce poverty through linking agriculture to the tourism industry.

“This goal is consistent with the European Union Year of Development theme ‘Sustainable growth, decent jobs and businesses’ and the Small Islands Developing States policies on improving economic growth and inclusive development,” the statement said.

“The joint collaboration is a push to include more local products on to dinner tables of hotel restaurants and connecting farmers directly with hoteliers to reduce misunderstanding in terms of supply and demand of local vegetables and crops.”

Personnel from various tourism and agricultural sectors would focus on sharing knowledge and experiences.

The workshop will be held from June 29 to July 3 at Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Nadi.
