Atlanta, GA – Travelers booking flights with Delta Air Lines starting Wednesday will pay $15 for their first checked bag and $25 for a second checked bag, the airline has announced.

Delta, now the world’s biggest airline after finalizing its acquisition of Northwest Airlines last week, will also do away with its fuel surcharge for frequent flier tickets and $3 curbside check-in fee starting Dec. 5. Phone reservation fees will also be lowered to $20 from $25 effective Nov. 6.

The new fees will replace the current policy of free check-in for the first bag and $50 fee for a second checked bag as the airline matches Northwest’s fees.

Exemptions, however, cover first class and business class passengers. Their first three bags limited to 70 pounds each can be checked in for free. SkyMiles Medallion members and WorldPerks elite members in coach class will not be charged for the first two bags with the same weight.

International travelers and “Y” coach class passengers can check in two bags each weighing 50 pounds for free.
