ITALY (eTN) – The purchasing of Eurocity rail tickets via a paperless procedure for train trips from Italy to Switzerland and vice versa is now active thanks to a new system introduced on the Trenitalia sales systems for international travel.

The electronic ticket, already available for some time on the routes of the Frecce Trenitalia network, has been extended to international travel bookings on train services connecting Italy and Switzerland every day, in addition to 10 direct links planned for the occasion of Expo Milano 2015, from May 1 to October 31, to and from the Rho Fiera Milano Expo 2015 and Switzerland.

“It is the continuation of a process of technological development to customer service,” said Gianfranco Battisti, Division Director, LH Passengers, Trenitalia, โ€œthat brought Trenitalia, first in Europe to introduce the electronic ticket. … Offering this service on the Italy-Switzerland trains means creating ease of access to Trenitalia services, generat[ing] new opportunities for business and pleasure travel, and increas[ing the] share of international visitors to Expo 2015.โ€

It is now possible to reach Zurich, Geneva, Bern, Basel, and all other Swiss destinations in just a few clicks, without the need to print a ticket at self-service stations. To access the train it is now sufficient to show the booking code (PNR) to the train crew inspectors.

On the Eurocity Italy-Switzerland, the ticket is even more flexible, as before departure the customer can change their booking, if required, to change the date or time of travel, free of charge. The feature is available for the main commercial offers on sale on Trenitalia channels, both for individual and group travel.
