SINGAPORE – The 2015 China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) Tourism Exhibition, jointly organized by the China National Tourism Administration and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will be held in Guilin, China from May 29-31, 2015. The official announcement was made at a press conference in Beijing, China, on April 8, 2015, by Mrs. Chen Lihua, Deputy Major of Guilin Municipal People’s Government.

Themed “Developing Tourism for the 21st Century for the Maritime Silk Road”, the 2015 CAEXPO aims to become a world-renowned exhibition that promotes tourism cooperation and exchanges between China and ASEAN countries. It also aims to become a global platform for tourism stakeholders with similar regional characteristics and goals to come together to cooperation. The strengthening of the tourism cooperation will then boost economic and trade investments between China and ASEAN members, resulting in an improved China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and the construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The 2015 CAEXPO, which spans over 23,000 square meters, is expected to attract over 800 enterprises and more than 300 overseas buyers, as well as visitors from over 60 countries and regions.

Expressing the importance of the Expo, Mrs. Chen said, “In order to implement and develop the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, as proposed by President Xi Jinping, CAEXPO has been delivering greater value through its exhibitions by providing comprehensive services. Besides having a comprehensive exposition, CAEXPO holds other professional exhibitions in areas with great potential for growth.”

Today, tourism is one of the top 11 main areas of focus and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries. Driven by the CAFTA, the tourism cooperation between China and ASEAN is developing rapidly over the past few years, and is fast becoming an important tourist guest source for each other. In view of this, Guilin is now striving to become an international tourism destination at a faster speed. As such, the annual CAEXPO will be held in Guilin China.

Miss Chen also mentioned that the tourism cooperation between China and ASEAN is promising, and is looking forward to meeting friends from home and abroad in Guilin this May. She hopes to be able to work closely with partnering ASEAN countries to jointly develop bigger and better exhibitions for many years to come.

A destination with vast tourism resources, Guilin is the perfect setting to host the China—ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition. In fact, the recent framework to establish Guilin as an international tourism destination has been approved by the State Council. Now, tourists from a total of 51 countries can enjoy a 72-hour transit visa exemption. In addition, tourist groups from ASEAN countries get to enjoy a 144-hour transit visa exemption. On top of that, the Hunan-Guangxi high speed rail and the Guiyang-Guangzhou high speed rail have been opened to traffic, while Guilin airlines, a convenient and comprehensive transportation network, is fast taking shape. Hence, it is not surprising that many international expos have been successfully held in Guilin, such as China Guilin International Tourism Expo, Boao Forum for Asian Tourism, World Tourism Trend and Prospect International Forum. With tremendous experiences in exposition, as well as advantages in exhibition policies, location and environment, the China—ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition is expected to be a huge success.

The press conference was also attended by more than 100 attendees, including Mr. Yu Changguo, the Major Assistant of Guilin; Mrs. Li Yaying, Director General of Tourism Promotion and International Liaison Department of China National Tourism Administration(CNTA); Mr. Zhou Wenjie, Director of the Propaganda Division of CNTA; Mr. Chen Jianjun, Director General of Tourism Administration of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; Mrs. Huang Yuan, Deoputy Director Genral of the International Expo Affairs Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; Mr. Lin Yejiang, Director of Guilin Municipal Tourism Development Commission; Mrs. Zhou Ying, Director of Guilin Convention and Exhibition Bureau; ambassadors from relevant countries, representatives from different organizations in tourism and exhibition industry, as well as journalists from all across China. The Press Conference is chaired by Mr. Shi Xi, the Deputy Secretary General of Guilin Municipal People’s Government.
