NEW ORLEANS, LA — Police shot and killed a man on Friday night at Louis Armstrong International airport after he hit a TSA agent with machete in what appears to be a random attack.
The agent approached the man when he forced his way into the TSA line. The man then sprayed the agent with spray and hit another officer with the machete, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said.
The attacker, identified as 63-year-old taxi driver Richard White, was shot three times by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputy, police said.
Louis Armstrong International airport was shut down for about 20 minutes. There were reports of the passengers not being allowed to de-plane from the planes that have just arrived.
