HONG KONG – Organized by Hong Kong Architecture Centre (HKAC) and sponsored by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, “My 10 Most ‘Liked’ Hong Kong Architecture of the Century” held its Award Presentation-cum-opening Ceremony of Exhibition today ( 20th March, 2015 ) at Pacific Place, Admiralty to announce the 10 most “Liked” architectural pieces in the city voted by the public. The ceremony also kicked off a series of public exhibition of the campaign.

The ceremony was officiated by Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet -ngor, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration, joined by guests including Mr. Raymond Fung , Chairman of Hong Kong Architecture Centre, Ms. Corrin Chan , Chairperson of “My 10 Most ‘Liked’ Hong Kong Architecture in the Century”, Mrs. Janet Chu , Assistant Head of CreateHK, Dr. Joseph Ting Sun Pao , Chairman of the Jury Panel of “My 10 Most ‘Liked’ Hong Kong Architecture of the Century” & Adjunct Professor of CUHK and Mr. Vincent Ng , President of Hong Kong Institute of Architects. Together they announced the 10 award-winning architectures of the campaign and unveiled the public exhibition. In the ceremony, Mrs. Carrie Lam , Chief Secretary for Administration remarked, “I am glad that the Hong Kong Architecture Centre instigated this campaign to enhance public understanding of local architecture. It provides an invaluable opportunity to appreciate the architectural legacy of our city and take a walk down memory lane to a past shared by each of us.”

“My 10 Most ‘Liked’ Hong Kong Architecture of the Century” was launched to celebrate the 10 th anniversary of HKAC. The public voting of “My 10 Most ‘Liked’ Hong Kong Architecture of the Century” took place from 1 st January to 6 th February, 2015. Members of the public were invited to vote for their 10 most ‘Liked’ Hong Kong architectures among the 100 shortlisted pieces. With overwhelming response, over 15,000 people voted for a maximum of 10 architectural pieces per person, concluding the public voting with over 150,000 votes. The 10 award-winning architectures are (in alphabetical order): Chi Lin Nunnery , Hong Kong International Airport, Kowloon Walled City, Lui Seng Chun , Main Building of The University of Hong Kong , Ocean Park, Tai O Stilt Houses, The Former Kowloonโ€“Canton Railway Terminus & Clock Tower, The Peak Tram, as well as the complex of Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier , The Five Flagpoles & Central Star Ferry Pier. Incorporating not only memorable architectures but also sites that reflect our history, culture, architectural aesthetics and social development, the winner line up undoubtedly echoes the uniqueness of Hong Kong as a multifaceted metropolis.

The exhibition is held from 20 th to 26 th March at Garden Court, Level LG1, Pacific Place. Valuable exhibits such as architectural sketches, model and historic photos related to the 10 most “Liked” architecture pieces will be displayed. Other shortlisted architectures are also showcased to familiarise the general public with the architectural splendour and legendary histories of Hong Kong . Visitors are also encouraged to write down their stories related to the architectures and to bring home the postcards with stamps tailored made for each site that has been shortlisted for public voting. The exhibition will continue from 1 st to 30 th April at Oi! located at Oil Street, North Point.

“My 10 Most ‘Liked’ Hong Kong Architecture of the Century” is a campaign launched last year that aims to enrich the general public’s appreciation of the built environment. Through public voting and a series of related events consisting of public lectures, guided tours, education & young people’s events and an exhibition, the organiser hopes to enhance participants’ understanding of the historical, social, economic, artistic and cultural evolution and development of our city. The project also aims to increase the participants’ recognition of the essence of our place and foster our sense of belonging to the city.
