One of the resorts at the Golden Triangle welcomes guests in a truly Regal fashion with a traditional Long Tail boat ride on the Mekong river followed by an Elephant trek.

The historic town of Chiang Saen, whose status as the sometime capital of the Lanna kingdom, ensured that this site was richly endowed with religious buildings. Historical highlights include Wat Chedi Luang with its huge 600-year old Bodhi tree and Wat Pa Sak, which features the only Sukothai style ‘walking Buddha.’ The ancient Lanna capital was a site where kings were welcomed by boat on the Mekong or by elephant., and now wedding couples can also enjoy a taste of old and choose to arrive at Anantara Resort in a manner usually reserved for royalty.

Guests will be met at Chiang Saen by a traditional long-tail boat and will be taken on a relaxing and scenic trip on the mighty Mekong river. A twenty-minute ride watching life along the riverbank, the Laos bathers and the boat people, brings guests to the village of Sob Ruak, also known as Golden Triangle village where a golden Buddha statue stands on a hilltop on the site of a 14th Century chedi (pagoda) with views up the Mekong to the point where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand converge. The boatman leaves the Mekong and travels up the smaller Ruak river, a tributary that separates Thailand from Myanmar, which is flanked by tall grass, native birds and natural forests on either bank. The boat arrives at the dock and the guest’s meet their passage to the resort – their very own private elephant.

A short fifteen-minute elephant ride at a gentle pace ensures that guests can enjoy the enchanting scenery, including ponds, the lychee orchard, organic vegetable garden, elephant camp, all the way to the resort where guests will welcomed with a friendly smile as they are helped from their elephant.

The Regal Elephant Arrival is prices at 6000Bt per person and includes Long Tail boat transfer and Elephant ride to the resort.
