LONDON, England – Heathrow has released a new report summing up why it is the best expansion option for the UK delivering more jobs and more economic growth, shared more fairly across the UK than any other option. The report also serves as a reminder to the Airport Commission that Heathrow is financially and environmentally deliverable, pointing to the growing local support and backing across all UKโ€™s nations and regions.

Heathrow best for economic growth and jobs- The Airports Commission calculate that the economic benefit of Heathrow expansion is up to ยฃ211bn, this is almost ยฃ100bn more than choosing Gatwick.

Heathrow best for rebalancing the UK economy- Airports Commission research confirms that the majority of the benefits will be felt outside London and the South East, contributing to rebalancing the UK economy with up to ยฃ114bn of economic benefits going to regions outside London and the South East.

Heathrow best for competition, passengers and freight- An expanded Heathrow will allow new airlines to operate providing more competition and lower fares for passengers. Expansion will also benefit exports, with Heathrow being Britainโ€™s most important port handling more freight by value than Britainโ€™s two busiest shipping container ports put together.

Heathrow best for local communities- The Airport Commission has assessed that Heathrow could deliver over 41,000 more jobs for local residents at the airport by 2030 with expansion with less noise from aircraft overhead with expansion than there is today as confirmed by the Airports Commission all within air quality limits. 10,000 apprenticeships will also be created.

Heathrow backed by business, airlines and the tourism industry- Heathrow expansion is backed by over 30 local Chambers of Commerce from every region and nation across the UK, the CBI, as well as the IoDโ€™s members, and major UK businesses. Heathrow is an integral part of a successful aviation sector and is supported by major airports and airlines including easyJet. The support is also visible in the tourism industry where Heathrowโ€™s role in increasing revenue for the UK is recognised.

Heathrow backed by large industry and export associations- Because of the crucial role Heathrow plays in supporting British exports many large associations and companies are behind expanding Heathrow making the case that only Heathrow will help connect Britain to global growth with over 40 new long haul destinations.

Heathrow backed by the local community- In ten constituencies around Heathrow 50% of people support expansion, compared to 33% who oppose it.

Heathrow backed by politicians and the unions- Heathrow expansion is supported by politicians across the UK at a local, national and EU level. Support also extends to the unions who understand the opportunities for jobs and skills provided at an expanded Heathrow.

John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow CEO said:โ€˜I have been overwhelmed by the high level of response by organisations and the local community to the Commission during the consultation period. This clearly shows that there is a growing support for Heathrow expansion across the UK.

If we receive policy support from the Airport Commission, we have the opportunity to create the worldโ€™s best connected and sustainable hub airport- delivering economic benefits and jobs to all of the UK. The time has come to be ambitious and get on with it.โ€™

Heathrow has a track record of financing and delivering large scale infrastructure projects such as the ยฃ11bn investment made over the past decade delivering two world class terminals on time and on budget.
