LOS ANGELES, California – Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen, located in greenery, sits on a rise with fabulous panoramic views over the Swiss Central Plateau and Alps. Picturesque countryside and magnificent mountain vistas surround the 4-star hotel with the cities of Basel, Bern, Lucerne and Zurich located nearby.

Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen recently received Green Globe certification marking its fourth consecutive year of sustainable management and operations and achieved an outstanding compliance score of 98%.

Ute Dirks, General Manager Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen said, “We are very proud to receive this valuable Green Globe Certification for the fourth time. Our hotel is located in an environmentally protected area and therefore, we are keen on preserving the resources given to us by nature.”

The hotel follows best practices in managing its energy consumption. Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen is developing a target agreement to increase its energy-efficiency with the Swiss Federal Government, outdoor parking has been rebuilt and lighting replaced with LED’s, hotel windows mounted with triple glazing to improve insulation and light tubes replaced with more efficient lighting systems in meeting rooms.

Energy, water and waste usage are monitored regularly to ensure benchmarks are met and the hotel’s impact on the environment is minimalized. Also, black and grey water is disposed of in a non-polluting way so that natural water resources are not contaminated with toxic or hazardous products.

The reduction of carbon emissions is another focal point of Mövenpick Hotel Egerkingen’s environmental policy with long-term plans already in place.

“We are very happy to provide 8 supercharger filling stations for electric cars, free of charge, that have been in operation since August 2014. This is an important investment in the future and saves CO2 emissions,” added Ute Dirks.

The environmental protection of neighboring alpine areas, such as the mountains of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau near Interlaken, is another key objective in the hotel’s overall sustainable management plan. The hotel supports local organizations – Kora and Wildlife Switzerland – in their projects and research endeavors that encourage biodiversity and the co-existence of man and native alpine animals and birds including lynx, bears and Bearded Vultures.

To preserve local flora and fragile eco-systems, hotel associates also participate in activities through the Society for Nature Conservation Egerkingen. The volunteers assist with clearing rugged terrain in protected forest areas and helping with the care of a variety of native and international species of orchids in Orchid “Föhrenwald”.
