The IAAF-approved Kilimanjaro Marathon, which will this year be run on Sunday, March 1, in and around Moshi, will once again offer sporting enthusiasts three races. The full marathon of 42.2 kilometers will be supplements by a half marathon and a 5 KM fun run in which groups, families and those not fit enough for the longer distances can compete.

Guest of Honor will be Tanzaniaโ€™s Minister for Home Affairs who will flag off the races for which over 6,000 competitors from within Tanzania, the region and further abroad are expected.

Sponsored by Tanzania Breweries since the first event in 2003, the winners in the various categories will receive generous prizes, while also qualifying for other competitive races like the Comrades and Two Oceans marathons.

Other sponsors include RwandAir, local telecoms company TIGO, and the Kibo Palace Hotel, among many others.

While online entries have now been closed, local entries be made from February 26-28, allowing for more participants who had not yet been able to sign up. The annual event has become a major attraction for visitors to Tanzania who, after participating in the races can then enjoy a safari or a beach vacation.
