Vanilla Islands founder member, Reunion Island, gained extra prominence in the French market after Selectour AFAT brought 120 travel agents to the island for a three-day workshop including showcasing the wide range of attractions Reunion Island holds in store for its visitors.

Supported by Reunion Island Tourism (IRT), the agents were able to learn all about the destination against the backdrop of some spectacular eruptions of the islandโ€™s active volcano Piton de la Fournaise.

Finding out about IRTโ€™s award-winning applications for mobile phones and tablets and being introduced to the equally award-winning, 360-degree website, the participants were also shown around the island to learn about the history, culture, and cuisine of Reunion, apart from the more regular tourism attractions. Tourists are able to learn all about the growing and processing of vanilla and the production of rum made from homegrown sugar cane.

When in season, Reunion Island is a magnet for whale and dolphin watchers, and hikers and extreme sport enthusiasts have long discovered the trails which lead into the rugged interior of the island. Abseiling, rafting, and canyoning are but a few of the adventure sports available, as is paragliding and diving.

A wide range of resorts, from homestays and B&Bs to star-rated accommodation, extending from 1 star to five stars, is available for visitors to the island who are spoiled for choice in any way.
