Architecture Concept, Structure Design and Sustainability
Sunrise Kempinski Hotel, Beijing is designed by Shanghai Huadu Architect Design Company.

The architecture concept is from the idea of ‘oriental sunrise’, emphasizing the integration of the nature and the building, whilst introducing the ‘architecture language’ for the hotel by using 20 vertical warps, representing cooperation and harmony.

The main structure system is a combination of mixed structure system which utilizes concrete-filled tubular column together with steel beams, and a concrete core. The whole building is supported both vertically and horizontally by the concrete core with steel structure beams within. Combining the horizontal and vertical frames, the lantern-shaped structure system not only fulfills a structure that can withstand up to a level eight earthquake, but also creates the ‘sunrise’ design of the building.

Compared to a normal single tower building, each floor area gets an extra 25% of natural daylight. Four-layered low-E glazing system is used to ensure indoor temperature comfort. The ventilation pipes, which are installed within the vertical bars on the façade, direct fresh air through the perforated aluminum panels.
