LIMA, Peru – The Ministry of Tourism announced that in 2014 Peruvian domestic tourism was worth S/. 160 million, about US$ 53 million.

Deputy Minister, María del Carmen de Reparaz, announced the improvement from 2013’s total due to various destinations in the country calling tourists and the new campaign, “Y tú qué planes?”

“In 2013, we received approximately S/.140 million (about US$ 46 million). It is an important rise, and we hope that through activities, such as domestic tourism fairs, we can continue to increase this economic activity to regions,” the Deputy Minister told Andina.

Other activities that contributed to the growth were coordinated with Mincetur and Promperu to create for example, bird watching activities. Last year ornithologists from the United States and Peru, and Peruvian youth participated in activities such as Big Day and World Birding Rally.

The Ministry expects domestic tourism to grow another 6% in 2015 with more regional fairs and tourism campaigns to call the natives attention.
