There were parties in Santos, Brazil, for the first beach tennis tournament of the year, where beach tennis champions, Marie-Eve and Mathilde Hoarau, were offered second place in the competition. This was a season that started auspiciously for these Honorary Ambassadors for Reunion Island Tourism (IRT).
With a second place ranking on the podium, rounded up in the first grade tournament 1 (G1) of the season, Marie-Eve and Mathilde Hoarau set the bar high for the rest of their adventures in beach tennis.
After a first-round set in two sets with a score of 6/3 – 6/1, a second round against a second pair of Brazilians completed in three sets (6/7 – 6/0 – 6/1), as the Réunion Island pair reached the half-way mark to the finale. A new face of local pairs, the Hoarau twin sisters met up against Sapienza, knocking them out of the competition (7/5 – 6/2). In the final, Joana Cortez and Flavia Muniz, respectively third and sixth in the world rankings and incidentally the best pair of Brazil, were the right triples champions for France beach tennis.
The Honorary Ambassadors for Reunion Island are proud of their results, as they begin the season with a level of play which should give a hard time to their future opponents.
