LOS ANGELES, California – The Mövenpick Hotel Den Haag – Voorburg is located in the historical center of the city of Voorburg in the Netherlands. Upmarket shops and restaurants encircle the 4-star hotel with abundant artistic and cultural sightseeing destinations situated close by as well as surfing beaches.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is the most Green Globe certified hotel group in the world. Recently, Mövenpick Hotel Den Haag – Voorburg received its Green Globe re-certification in recognition of the hotel’s commitment to sustainable management and operations.

Mr. J-L Baeriswyl, General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Den Haag -Voorburg said: “We are very pleased to receive the Green Globe certification for the third year in a row. We are doing our utmost to protect and preserve the environment and resources. We are very pleased with the results. We made some major changes to save energy in the hotel this year and we were very active in the community on a social level.”

A daily energy monitoring system, supported by a monthly analysis designed by Green Globe Preferred Partner FARNEK, compares the hotel’s achievements against industry benchmarks. To reduce energy usage LED lights and timed switches or motion sensors are used in several public areas and back of house offices. Also, all meeting rooms have large windows that deliver natural light. The forecast energy savings are predicted to be around 10%.

The continuous registration and monitoring of energy and water usage allows the hotel to make further comparisons to overall usage in previous periods. To date, the hotel has invested in water saving devices on showerheads and taps in guest bathrooms saving up to 15% of water usage. And guests are encouraged to re-use towels and linen to minimize water consumption.

To limit its impact on the environment, the hotel uses only environmentally friendly chemicals. Better management of waste and chemicals has resulted in waste recycling programs and the different waste streams are registered online through www.wasteportal.nl. To reduce waste, the majority of food and beverage products are bought in bulk packaging. In addition, soap and detergent in the public and staff toilets, kitchens and housekeeping departments are stored in dispensers rather than being individual packaged.

Mövenpick Hotel Den Haag – Voorburg’s proximity to the nearby cities of The Hague and Amsterdam allows guests and conference attendees the opportunity to reduce carbon emissions by catching public buses and trains when commuting. Rental bikes are also available for hire when sightseeing or exploring the beaches at Delft and Scheveningen.

The hotel regards social responsibility towards staff and the wider community as fundamental in its sustainability management plan. Through in-house and online programs staff receive regular training on sustainable initiatives. Morning meetings include Green Globe topics that actively engage all staff members such as water conservation. Furthermore, best environmental and social practices are adhered to with Food & Beverage departments sourcing 90% of produce from local Dutch suppliers and farmers.

Last year Mövenpick Hotel Den Haag -Voorburg staff contributed to various innovative social initiatives. The hotel sold “kruidnooties,” a cookie-like confectionary, at reception as a fundraiser for the Make a Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening conditions. And a high tea prepared by associates, and the Food & Beverage section was held for volunteers from Hospice Het Vliethuys Voorburg/ The Hague. The hotel also supports Natuurmonumenten, a society representing over thirteen local district committees to discuss local issues and the Climate Neutral Group dedicated to reducing carbon emissions.
