NADI, Fiji – An American couple has become Fiji’s first tourists in 2015 after arriving in the first flight into the country at around 6am this morning.

Nick and Danielle Hagel from Denver are holidaying in Fiji for the first time and their vacation has been made special when they were named as the first tourists to Fiji in the New Year.

The unsuspecting travelers were surprised by Tourism Fiji at Nadi Airport before being spoiled to first class treatment and gifted handsome prizes.

“Getting off the plane two lovely ladies greeting us, taking our photos and then first class treatment helping us get our bags showing us around getting through customs the warm reception from the band. It’s been amazing so far we haven’t even got out of the airport yet!”

The Hagels chose to stay in Fiji for five days instead of transiting through to New Zealand.

Tourism Fiji Public Relations Manager Patricia Mallam says this is one of the areas they are targeting through such campaigns.

“While going through this whole event we also acknowledged that there is a lot of passengers that come to Fiji only through transit and staging events like this sort of draws their attention and like okay whats going on I wish I wasn’t just confined to the airport I want to go out there and see whats happening so we are hoping that we do more things like this that’s going to make them want to come to Fiji not just to transit but actually spend a few days and figure why Fiji is the happiest place.”
