TONGARIRO NATIONAL PARK, New Zealand – A tourist has collapsed and died in Tongariro National Park.
The 51-year-old German man was descending Mount Ngauruhoe with his wife when he collapsed, police say.
His wife cried for help and a nearby climber initiated CPR and called emergency services.
The man was unable to be revived.
The Greenlea Taupo Rescue helicopter flew rescue crew to the base of the mountain as low cloud, rain and strong winds prevented it from going higher.
Land search and rescue volunteers recovered the man’s body on foot.
His death has been referred to the coroner.
