The Icelandic Tourist Board has named Sigrídur Gróa Thórarinsdóttir as its new marketing manager for the UK and Ireland.
Ms. Thórarinsdóttir has a 25-year career history in tourism and has pledged to further enhance support for the travel trade in the UK, the largest single market for tourism to Iceland.
Married with two daughters, Ms. Thórarinsdóttir’s former roles include tourism director for the North West Iceland. She has also worked for tour operators in Iceland and Germany, as well as a major Icelandic groups organizer.
Of her new role, she commented, “I will continue the good work that has been built up in the UK and Ireland market, with the emphasis on winter and off-season products. The excellent co-operation with UK tour operators selling both short and long tours to Iceland will be taken even further with mutual gains for both sides.”
She added that there would be enhanced support for operators and agents, with additional workshops planned for retailers, as well as increased information via the internet, coupled with web-marketing, in co-operation with the travel trade.
Ms. Thórarinsdóttir succeeds Sigrún Hlin Sigurdardóttir, who has been promoted to head of marketing for the tourist board.
