MELBOURNE, Australia – Myriad Marketing, Melbourne Convention Bureau’s (MCB) representation agency for North America, has appointed Maria Rivera to the position of MCB Director of Business Development, North America.

This pivotal role aims to position Melbourne as one of the world’s premier business events destinations, with Myriad’s Washington DC office working to keep Melbourne top of mind in the North American market.

Ms Rivera joins Myriad from Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau where her remit covered the Bureau’s north eastern region and included identifying and delivering prospective clients in all market segments and developing and maintaining relationships with associations and corporations.

She has also previously worked at Tourism Toronto where she created the first ever joint customer event with the Hawaiian Convention Center and Hawaii partners.

Ms Rivera is a member of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and holds a Bachelor of Political Science and Government.

Speaking about MCB’s newest recruit, Ms Karen Bolinger, Chief Executive Officer of MCB, said: “Maria’s strong association sector background coupled with her extensive experience in multiple convention and visitors’ bureaux, means that she is well placed to capitalise on the significant traction the dedicated North American office has made in the past year.

“The North American association and incentive market is a key focus for MCB and Maria’s experience will be invaluable in strengthening relationships with meeting managers from across the country . She will help us go to the next level in achieving our vision for Melbourne to be recognised as one of the world’s most successful conference and meetings destinations.”

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Chief Executive, Peter King, also welcomed Ms Rivera to the team, saying: “It’s great to have someone of Maria’s calibre join the team at MCB. The MCEC and MCB teams work very closely together to secure and deliver large scale global business events and Maria will have a very important role to play in terms of ensuring that Melbourne and MCEC is front of mind for the North America market.”
